Services for Students, Faculty and Staff
Loan Periods
Books
Four books in any one subject area and a total of 15 books at a time can be borrowed.- 2 weeks with unlimited renewals (unless overdue or on hold).
- 3 day textbooks (no renewals)
- 7 day books (no renewals)
- Library use only: 1, 2 or 3 hrs
- All other items are 1 day
- Library use only: Reference books, journals, records, videos
- 2 weeks: Language CDs, ESL, plays
- 3 days: Lakeshore audio CDs
- 7 days: TESL

Fines
- Material not returned by the due date will be subject to fines. Watch the Renew items tutorial to avoid overdue fines.
- All borrowers are responsible for fines incurred on any material signed out to their library cards.
- If you sign out material for another student or friend on your card, you are held responsible.

Lost or Damaged Items
- All borrowers are responsible for the replacement costs of any lost or damaged items signed out to their card.
- Note: If a lost item is found, a refund for the replacement and processing charges will be given. Adjustments to any fines will be made accordingly.
Graduating students who have not returned all library materials by the end of the academic year and/or have unpaid fines must clear his or her fines and either return the materials or pay replacement costs, in order to receive official transcripts, certificates, degrees or diplomas.

Collections
Code of conduct
Humber Libraries provide space, materials, and assistance for students, faculty, staff and the public to pursue their work and studies in a positive and productive learning environment in which all persons treat each other with respect and courtesy. The Library Code of Conduct applies to all areas of the library, including book areas, study spaces, group study rooms, stairwells and washrooms.
Out of considerations for others:
- Noise and Conversation
- The libraries are zoned for different levels of noise.
- North Campus: No cell phone conversations in the 24 Hour Study Room & on the 5th Floor.
- The 5th Floor and 24 Hour Study Room are zoned for silent study.
- The 4th Floor is zoned for quiet study.
- Lakeshore Campus: The Seminar Room is zoned for silent study.
- The Lower Floor is zoned for quiet study.
- Around the service desk & stand-up computer area please keep noise at a level that is respectful to the other users of the library.
- Audio devices must be listened to on headphones, not external speakers.
- Headphone volume should not distract other library users.
- Disruptive Behaviour
- Library users who are disturbed by the conversations or activities of those around them should approach the offenders and request that they stop.
- Security and/or Library staff will become involved if the offenders don't stop.
- Food and Drinks
- Food and drinks are allowed inside the library.
- Food is not allowed at computers and viewing stations.
- Avoid handling library materials while you are eating and/or drinking.
- Please put your wrappers and containers in the trash & recycling bins.
- Computers
- Library computers are intended for academic use.
- No gaming is permitted.
- No Facebook use on Library computers from 10:00am – 4:00pm.
- Food is not allowed at library computers.
- No parking personal belongings at computers for extended periods.
- Headphone volume should not distract other library users.
- 24 Hour Study Room (North Campus) & Seminar Room (Lakeshore Campus)
- These rooms are for silent study.
- No talking is allowed.
- Put your cell phone on vibrate.
- You can not hold a study space for extended periods by leaving your jacket or bag. Do not park your items here.
- Do not listen to audio devices.
Theft and vandalism
Borrowers who steal or vandalize library materials will be subject to disciplinary action.
Theft and/or vandalism are serious offences. It is not only the person who has committed the act that it harms, but also the library staff, other students and faculty as they are denied access to the materials.
A security report is filled out and filed for each individual case. Humber College Security also becomes involved. Library material(s) is confiscated along with the person's photo identification/library card. The report is kept; a copy sent to the Dean of Student Services and to Security.
The following costs will be charged and the amounts will be added as a note on the student's library record:
- A flat fee of $25.00 will be assessed
- An amount equal to double the cost of the item (whether it is a book, newspaper, periodical or annual report) will be charged. If more than one item is mutilated, the charge will be per item.
- Annual reports -- $10.00 flat rate
- Paperback book (easy reading) -- $8.00
- Government document or publication of associations (eg. League of Nursing) -- $10.00
