OLA Super Conference 2008
The OLA (Ontario Library Association) Super Conference starts Wednesday, January 30 and winds up on Saturday, February 2 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Here’s what some of our librarians are doing:
Caroline Stewart is one of two OCULA (Ontario College and University Libraries Association) 2008 Super conference planners. For the past year she has been working on developing an exciting and relevant program for the academic librarians attending OLA’s annual conference. She has organized 36 sessions and will be busy ensuring that the sessions run smoothly, troubleshooting as the need arises and providing general support to speakers, convenors and the rest of the planning team.
Each year, OCULA invites librarians with less than five years experience to propose conference sessions of significance. This year, Dalia Smith won with her proposal “Success in the Job Hunt: Stories from the Trenches from New Academic Librarians.” The focus of this session is on mentoring future academic librarians.
Mark Bryant is taking part in two OLA Super Conference sessions: “Demystifying the Technician / Librarian Dilemma in the Digital Age: Promoting Healthy Relationships in Academic Libraries” and “Transitions: From High School to Academic Libraries.” The first session deals with the importance of promoting happy and healthy work environments in order to maximize productivity, creativity and excellent customer service. The second session is a dialogue between high school librarians and academic librarians regarding what skills students need to bring with them when going to college or university.
Lisa DiBarbora is on the panel for Video Ontario - Knowledge Ontario's project for streaming initiatives. She will share her experiences with the implementation of a nursing assessment collection here at Humber.
