Learning Commons

The North and Lakeshore Learning Commons’ are student-centred spaces that are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are designed to support research, collaboration, and access to advanced technology.




  • Individuals must demonstrate acceptable behavior and respect for the needs of others in this learning environment.
  • All equipment and furniture must be treated as intended (no sitting on tables, no moving furniture, no vandalism or defacing of property).
  • Users can not login to multiple computers; e.g to reserve them for other students or to allow access for non-Humber users.
  • Users are responsible for their personal property at all times and should never leave personal belongings unattended.  Personal items left unattended for 15 minutes or longer may be removed and sent to Lost and Found so the space can be used by others.  Items removed are not the responsibility of the Learning Commons.
  • No soliciting is allowed.

Noise and Conversation​

  • Users of the Learning Commons are expected to speak at a volume that shows respect for other users of the space.
  • Audio devices must be listened to on headphones, not external speakers.
  • Headphone volume should not distract other library users. If other users can hear it, it is too loud,
  • Users who are disturbed by the conversations or activities of those around them are asked to visit the Help Desk for assistance.
  • No talking or headphone use, is permitted in the silent study rooms.

Food and Drinks

  • Users are required to comply with the Library and LRC Learning Commons Policy
  • The library staff reserves the right to determine which food items and drink containers are acceptable and will respond to complaints about inappropriate food.

  • 16 multimedia group study rooms that are bookable online. They include display screens, sound systems and white boards.
