Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship between food insecurity within marginalized urban communities and public access to agricultural education specialized in urban growing. In-person interviews and various literature reviews aim to test the hypothesis that a community center designed to support service learning and training in urban farming can help to alleviate the pressure of food insecurity within marginalized urban communities. The study reveals that while urban agriculture is fundamental to urban food sustainability, without systematic policy change and financial support on a government level which redistributes land to marginalized communities, education in urban farming can not reach its full potential in alleviating the pressures of food insecurity within urban cities.
