Abstract:
Human health and wellbeing is at the core centre of human civilization; the rehabilitation process is one of the most important phases of one’s ability to recover from one’s illness. If not treated properly, patients will take longer to rehabilitate and return to their normal lives. In return, this causes a number of issues such as the patient’s ability to afford their hospital stay, the nurse’s work environment as well as other patients waiting to be rehabilitated. Nurses often experience stress in their environment which can lead them to cause fatal mistakes. This topic was looked at from the perspective of both the patient and the nurse in order to experience the overlapping challenges and areas for opportunities. This was done through interviewing both sides of the users to fully understand their experience. This thesis was completed through the use of user analysis, product benchmarking and research, understanding the current user environment, computer aided design, digital photo manipulation, and physical model making. This thesis sets out ways for more efficient patient and nurse conditions and environments while maintaining a sustainable product life cycle and catering to the complete body ergonomics of every patient.
