Four Seasons of Reconciliation

In the fall 2021, the Library team participated in the Four Seasons of Reconciliation training led by Indigenous Education & Engagement. The powerful 10-module online course, designed in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, provided resources to learn about the historical and current context of Indigenous peoples. Debrief sessions were led by a facilitator within the Indigenous Education & Engagement department.

In-Depth EDI Training

In 2020/2021, the entire Library team participated in a 10-hour professional development program led by Humber’s Centre for Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion (CHREI) that included six modules: An Introductory/Assessment Meeting; Spectrum of Identities; Introduction to Gender Diversity; Introduction to Implicit Bias; Introduction to Racial Microaggressions; and a Wrap-Up Meeting.

Also in 2020/2021, Humber’s CHREI ran a three-part series specifically for administrative leaders on the following topics: Building Diverse and Inclusive Environments within the Post-Secondary Sector: Our Role and Responsibility as Leaders; Addressing Anti-Black Racism & Leading Change at Humber; and Unconscious Bias and Challenges to Fair Assessment.

Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

In 2019/2020, the team took part in an online training session developed by Ryan Dowd, the director of Chicago’s largest shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. Based on his many years of experience, Mr. Dowd created the Librarian's Guide to Homelessness web training. The training focuses on using empathy to reduce problems and conflict while being both respectful and inclusive.
