Idea Lab

What Is the Idea Lab?

The Idea Lab is a new library initiative designed to support digital literacies at Humber College. The Idea Lab has three components: studio spaces, workshops, and online resources.

Spaces

The Idea Lab currently has four bookable spaces on the third floor of the LRC building at North campus: a video studio, an audio studio, and two 3D printer workstations. Our spaces are available to Humber and Guelph-Humber students, staff, and faculty but priority will be given to students working on assignments. Our current opening hours are Monday-Friday, 9:30am-4:30pm. These spaces can be reserved using the “Book a Studio” section below.

Workshops

The Idea Lab team holds regular open workshops on a variety of topics such as creating videos, building simple websites, and 3D printing. Workshop descriptions and schedules can be found below.

Online Resources

Idea Lab staff are building and curating a suite of online resources to support the creation of digital media such as podcasts, videos, and digital stories.

Book a Studio

As the Humber Libraries and Learning Commons are currently closed, the Idea Lab studios are no longer available for booking. A college announcement will be made when the studios are made available again and the booking calendar will return to this section of the webpage. In the meantime please explore our online resources and open workshops.

3D Print at the Idea Lab

Unfortunately, the Idea Lab 3D Printers are not available for booking during the current library and learning commons closure. If you are interested in 3D printing when the Idea Lab spaces reopen, we encourage you to completed the Idea Lab’s 3D Printing online tutorial and quiz. When the Idea Lab reopens, you will be contacted to attend an in-person workshop to complete your training.
