Abstract:
This study comprehensively examines and strongly advocates for the imperative need for innovative makerspace facilities tailored specifically to meet the career aspirations and progression of post-secondary students and recent graduates within the creative disciplines. It is imperative to optimize creative boundaries and foster connections among students, thereby fostering interdisciplinary practices and providing exposure to real-world career intricacies. The innovative center enriches the opportunities available to students within analogous design fields by offering collaborative workspaces, creative studios, workshops, technology-driven learning environments, joint programs, mentorship from industry professionals, and a resource repository. The study develops theoretical and conceptual frameworks to underscore its primary objective, which is to delineate the requisites and demands for an innovative makerspace. Extensive literature reviews have been undertaken to furnish analytical insights that underscore the significance of viable educational design environments and interdisciplinary development tailored to students enrolled in programs such as Architecture, Interior Design, Structural Engineering, Industrial Design, Landscape Design, and Graphic Design. To further fortify the study's objectives, a comprehensive methodology has been embraced, involving qualitative data collection through interviews with professionals from the industry, along with the administration of online survey questionnaires targeted at post-secondary students enrolled in various colleges and universities across Toronto, Canada.
