Community Building & Outreach Fund
Look for Community Building & Outreach labels on books from our general collection. This means the Library purchased the book from an independent bookstore or small press. With the help of this fund, we support local businesses and ensure a diverse range of voices and topics are represented in our collection.
We have partnered with:
Glad Day Bookshop, the world’s oldest queer bookstore, together with Humber’s LGBTQ+ Resource Centre.

A Different Booklist, a multicultural bookstore specializing in books from the African Caribbean diaspora and the Global South, together with Humber’s BSSE (Black Student Support and Engagement) Program.
North Library Children’s Area
The Children’s Area is a special part of the North Library. It is designed to provide caregivers and kids with an enjoyable, inviting place to study and play side by side. We welcome children of any age under adult supervision.
Book clubs
The Library regularly partners with student groups for themed book clubs and author readings.
We have partnered with:
- The BSSE (Black Student Support and Engagement) Program and Seneca College for a book club featuring They Said This Would Be Fun: Race, Campus Life, and Growing Up. Toronto-based journalist and author Eternity Martis gave a virtual reading of her work.
- Indigenous Education & Engagement for their annual summer book club, which brought Drew Hayden Taylor to Humber to discuss his novel Motorcycles & Sweetgrass.

Reading lists
The Library partners with Humber’s Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion to develop reading lists related to their Equity & Inclusion Dialogues. Our reading lists cover topics such as anti-racist pedagogy, misogynoir, respect at work, inclusive hiring and more. This ongoing work is an important way to build our collection on current issues in equity, diversity and inclusion.
