Four Seasons of Reconciliation
The Library team participated in the Four Seasons of Reconciliation training led by Indigenous Education & Engagement (IE&E). This powerful 10-module online course, designed in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action, provided resources to learn about the historical and current context of Indigenous peoples. Debrief sessions were led by a facilitator from the IE&E department
In-depth EDI training
The Library team regularly participates in professional development opportunities to stay current and informed on topics in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
Ongoing training includes:
- An online training session developed by Ryan Dowd, the director of Chicago’s largest shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. Required for all new Library team members, this course focuses on using empathy to prevent conflict while staying respectful and inclusive. Current Library team members also regularly participate in additional modules.
Past training sessions have included:
- A 10-hour professional development program led by Humber’s Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion (CHREI) that included modules on the identity spectrum, gender diversity, implicit bias and racial microaggressions.
- A three-part CHREI series for administrative leaders on leading change at Humber, building inclusive environments, addressing anti-Black racism, and understanding unconscious bias and challenges to fair assessment.
